Spring Has Sprung
Well, I’ve gone and done it. I’ve designed and coded a Fluid Imagination theme from scratch. It took me almost 12 hours from start to finish, but that’s what happens when you have Mondays off, right?
First, the bad news. This isn’t the theme that we’ve been working on. It turns out the design I put together was a pain in the ass to code, so after some valiant attempts by yours truly and Mr. Eliot Johnston, we had to admit our weaknesses and move on. Hopefully, we’ll be able to make that design work someday, but it ain’t happening right now. Which sucks, because it is a pretty cool design.
Second, the category icons are gone. I know that might annoy some people, but hear me out.
About two years ago, when we had a dozen writers contributing to the blog on a regular basis, the category icons made it easier for our readers to know who wrote what. Unfortunately, there’s only one writer on Fluid Imagination now, which means the icons outlived their usefulness. So, they’re gone.
Third, when you’re on the front page, you now have to click on a headline to read the actual post. This makes it easier to track what you like and what you don’t, and helps me decide what to write next.
Fourth, I’m not sold on the items in the sidebar. They may change at any moment.
Fifth, if we can figure out how to do it, you’ll soon have the ability to reply to a specific comment, instead of just adding to the bottom of the page. If we do it right, the blog will automatically “nest” your reply directly beneath the parent comment instead of way down at the end of the list. This will allow deeper and more specific conversations. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to figure this one out on my own, but I’ll pass the task on to Eliot, and see if he can work his magic.
And finally, they’ll probably be things I haven’t noticed, or things I forgot to code, so as always, keep an eye out for me, and don’t be shy with your feedback.
