Technology Isn’t Bad….Except When It Is

(this post was written by Kyle on December 4, 2008, and it concerns )

From Bokardo’s The Tyranny of Context - Bokardo: “I think this all comes down to what I’m going to call The Tyranny of Context. When we’re in the context of our lives, using technology to augment our daily activities, we don’t think about it as technology, per se. We see it as a tool to help us do fun things. But when we sit back and look at technology from afar, away from the details of context, well we often have a less positive view of it. This is precisely how the very same person who says that people watch way too much TV is then absolutely captivated when he can see the beads of sweat on Kevin Youkilis’ face when viewing a Red Sox game in HD.”

some might call this a conundrum… - but ultimately we have a choice whether or not we want to watch television or use the internet or pickle cucumbers… - dig a hole to china… - take a walk… - if you’re a parent you obviously have more control over these types of things when considering your children… - it’s possible to stay grounded in your reality while technology advances up your leg and into your streamline compartments… - you could really say the same things about all kinds of activities… - reading books… - getting dressed… - going out to eat… - whatever… - everything takes away a little piece of everything… - and too much of anything isn’t good… - even reality… - so eat your peas and carrots and do your math homework and try not to act too much like robocop while pumping the high definition into your bloodstream…
