I've never thought of Budweiser as the wal-mart of beers...interesting. Actually Budweiser by the bottle became my "go-to" cheap beer a few years ago. It was right around the time I realized Miller High Life's "Champagne of beers" gave me the night sweats and killer hang-overs (it must be those tiny bubbles).

The hipster beer in Providence was Narragansett or "Gansitt" as the locals called it. On Tuesdays it was a buck at the Decatur. I would walk in there and 95% of the kids were drinking it, and it tasted like swill. Well, I didn't want to look like one of the rich artists with appropriately placed paint on work pants (and leatherman case), so I started ordering Bud. It never really tasted all that delicious to me, but Bud Lite on a really hot day, after fishing on Tim's boat, at eighteen, damn that was good.

IPA, pale ale, porters and stouts were my thing for like ten years. Ipswich made some damn good beers . Longtrail, Red Hook, Guinness (of course), Sam Adams for a while, Pete's, the list goes on and on. But lately IPA tastes too sweet, and everything else beside Guinness-too heavy. So naturally I got into larger and some pilsners.

My problem with most breweries is that they don't offer a good yellow beer alternative. It's all dark and heavy and sweet and chocolate with berries and shit, higher percent, blah blah blah. Anyway I tried a Golden Ale at Port Townsend Brewery that blew me away...it made me have faith in good, easy beer again. I love it, and when we've got the dough me or Deb head into town and get a couple of growlers filled up. So thank you Port Townsend you've made my top brewery beer list with Red Hook's Black Hook Porter.

And, oh yeah, Budweiser thanks for making me love your uniform taste and bold blankness. You've alway been as American as GMC, Nike and Levis.
