Game 1 of this year's Finals was probably the first full-game I've watched since I lived in Brighton, when I think I watched probably 75% of the entire season. There was nothing better than heading over to Schwartzie's place, kicking back on the couch, getting a buffalo chicken sub delivered from Little Pizza King, and watching the C's.

When I got to Vermont though, none of my hippy friends was into watching sports (and the one that was wanted to watch the Detroit teams, not the Boston ones), so I fell out of the loop. But the NBA Finals is the NBA Finals, and Celtics vs. Lakers is Celtics vs. Lakers. And so on game nights, I've been walking over to the place of my one friend who has TV, and enjoying the shit out of the games.

The only thing that's missing are those buffalo chicken subs from LPK. I would probably give up a testicle to have one of those delivered in Poultney, VT.

Maybe even both testicles, if the sub came with mozzarella sticks.

I haven't really even watched a basketball game since Larry Bird left the Celtics. He was such an amazing player.

Seeing his full head of hair and mustache really add to the whole 80's nostalgia too.

i saw the celtics in 85 or 86 when i lived in brookline... - don't remember much of the details other than walking around the garden with a herd of people and noticing that everything and everyone was bigger than i was... - and during the game i remember watching parrish because his number was double zero and i thought that was interesting...

it's funny watching this highlight reel because larry bird just seems like such an unlikely superstar compared to the muscle bound players that usually take to the court... - and look at those assists... - unbelievable...

Adam's dad took us to a Celtics game for Adam's birthday one year. This was in 1989 (November 10,1989, to be precise), and we watched Bird have the final 50-point game of his career.

What I remember most is that, with about two minutes left, Bird had 48 points, and Adam's dad turned to us and said, "Let's get going, so we beat the traffic."

Even at 12 years old, I remember thinking, "This guy can't be serious."

We did see Bird get his 50th point, but it was as we were walking down the aisle.
