From the NY Times Magazine’s The Aria of Chris Matthews: “The broader issue involves whether Matthews is a man trapped in a tired caricature. And it touches on the future of his archetype in general — in other words, whither the cable blowhard? The ‘What happens to Chris’ question — a hot topic at NBC these days — infuses the Matthews story with a kind of ‘lion in winter’ urgency, if not poignancy. It also goes to the core of how Matthews sees himself, how cable news is changing and how Americans perceive of and consume their politics.”

Interesting article, considering I barely know who he is, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of his shows. I’m very glad about all this, just thankful that I’m not into these cable news political shouting matches…
you can stick me right in the camp that responds to stewart and olberman
You should watch the interview that Stewart conducted with Matthews about a month ago. I think it’s even referenced in the article ’cause Stewart basically called Matthews’ whole philosophy of life “kind of sad.”
That’s classic….and also kind of sad. That guy is about as hollow as they come.
He’s undoubtedly another of Washington’s husks that can’t see outside of the game, but he does occasionally produce some pretty resounding shout-downs. Here’s on of my favorites.
Great article. Great line:
As one who’s been known to bloviate at times, I can’t help but feel some warmth for the guy. And while I don’t always agree with his points, I usually disagree with the same people he disagrees with, for whatever that’s worth.
