We’re 10 days away from the official start of spring, and I gotta tell you, I’m ready for the winter to end. I can’t for the life of me find any specific report on how much snow we’ve received this winter (and believe me, I’ve looked), but I do know that we’ve had near-record snowfall.
Killington, for example, is about 35 minutes away from my house, and it’s reporting a seasonal accumulation of 236 inches, which is roughly 20 feet. While down here in the valley, we haven’t had quite that much, the National Weather Service reports that, even now, after a huge rainstorm three days ago, we still have about 10″ of snow on the ground. Looking out my window, that seems a bit on the high side, but there’s no mistaking the car-high and car-long pile of snow at the back of my driveway, the remains of what’s been plowed this season.
However you want to measure it, this winter has been huge.

But now I’m ready for it to be over.

And yes…it’s now a day later, and it’s snowing again.
FYI: “Vermont’s total accumulation reached 116.3 inches as of Friday [3/28/08], the fourth-largest amount to be recorded since 1884, according to the National Weather Service.”
