Packet #1 Is Out

It’s been several weeks since I last mentioned what I’ve been doing for school. Except for the week in Chicago and the days we spent moving into the new place, I’ve spent most of that time writing the pieces included in my first packet of work. You’ve already seen the first drafts of the literary criticism pieces (here, here, and here), but the packet also includes the prologue and first chapter of my creative thesis.

And I got them done.

That’s right, I’ve completed a strong first draft of the first thirty-five pages of my novel. I’m very excited.

What’s got me worried though is the second packet. This one has to include revisions to Chapter One (based on my advisor’s feedback), a strong draft of Chapter Two, three short annotations, and a long critical paper of about twenty pages. That’s a lot of friggin’ writing to do in three weeks.

I’ve already got a jump on Chapter Two, with about 2500 words already written (though not strongly), and I started a draft of my long-critical paper (though it’s probably unusable too), but I haven’t even finished the first book of the packet (I need to read three in the next three weeks), and if I do what I actually WANT to do, I’ll have to finish a fourth book too.

Basically, it’s a lot of friggin’ work.

Oh, and somewhere in there, I gotta come up with a best man’s speech. Good times.

Anyway, just thought I’d give you an update. I know how much you hate being in the dark about these things.

    Whose best man are you?

I don’t even know if I would have that many words to pull out of my ass in three weeks. Good luck!

Oh, wait, that didn’t really sound encouraging did it? ;)
