A Fitting Request

(this post was written by Kyle on July 16, 2007, and it concerns )

I’m currently reading “Breaking the Spell: Religion as Natural Phenomenon,” by Daniel Dennett. In one of the opening chapters, he notes the results of a recent survey that showed that only a quarter of Americans understand “that evolution is about as well-established as the fact that water is H2O.”

It would surprise me if any of the regular readers of Fluid Imagination were as ignorant in evolutionary theory as the majority of Americans, if only because I like to think we’re pretty smart, relatively speaking.

But the survey got me wondering: What do FI readers think/know about evolution?

So, here’s my request. Could take a few minutes out of your day to tell us, off the top of your head, what you think about evolution? What is it? How does it work? And what do you think about it?

If you’re nice enough to partake in this exercise, please be intellectually honest, by which I mean, please don’t look up evolution before answering this question. I want to know how YOU answer these questions, not how the Internet does.

Thank you for helping me out.
