Well, it’s that time of the month again. With my grad-school requirements all taken care of for the semester, I finally found the hours I needed to install and tweak a new theme for Fluid Imagination. Can you say “new and improved icon system?” (and broken “Asides” too?).
The last one was all right, but I had a big issue with the way the icons were squishing the text and for the last few weeks, it’s been really bothering me. I knew they way I wanted the icons to work, but I couldn’t for the life of me get to happen. So…I decided to change everything.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the icons are now rectangles, as opposed to the 250×250 squares that they were. They second thing you’ll notice is that I haven’t updated all the icons yet, so if you go back through the archived posts, you’ll probably come across a bunch that still use the square icon. Don’t worry, I’ll get to each and every one of them.
The next thing you’ll notice is that the Asides thing isn’t really working. I’ve been playing with it for a few hours now, but with very little success. I’ll try to give it another go later this week, but I want to warn you: The change may be rather drastic. And no, I have no idea what that means.
That should be about it though. I mean, a blog’s a blog’s blog, and there’s only so many variations an amateur developer can think up. With that being said, I’d love to hear your feedback.
As always, thanks for paying attention.

I’m totally into it. Way to go, brah.
Thanks for the good word, Leigh.
Okay, so I’ve been thinking about the Asides problem. And the best — re: easiest — solution I can come up with is to do as many bloggers do, and that is, to post a “Links for Today” post. If everything works correctly, this post will sit immediately below the “Latest Post” section, and be titled something like “Links for May 10, 2007.”
Over the course of the day, as I come to articles that I think y’all might like, I’ll update the post accordingly (with the newest articles placed at the top, so you don’t have to scroll to see if they’ve been updated).
That’s how it’ll work in theory anyway. We’ll see how it turns out in reality.
Well, my icon is ruined.
I updated it to fit already. Check it out. If you don’t like it, e-mail me and we’ll figure something out.
(That goes for the rest of our contributors too. I’m just gonna try to adapt the current icons to the new format, but if that doesn’t work for you, feel free to send me an e-mail and let me know).
it doesn’t work for me.
it’s kind of weird for me too… - like waking up with leigh o’connor in your bed… - and you’re a man… - and he didn’t even call… - i’m talking weird like going to bed alone and waking up in the morning with leigh spooning you and your butt hurts and your nipples are bruised weird…
i was only joking…
Dave, in this fantasy of yours do I “give it to you” hard?
yeah… - and as a result… - there’s poopies all over the walls, floor, and ceiling…
deb’s a lucky girl…
It’s always nice to see a personalized variation of my theme! It really looks very good.
Can you please tell me what you didn’t like about the Instant Search Widget? Not that I am bothered that you didn’t used it, but I still want to develop my theme and plug-ins further… So suggestions are welcome :)
First of all, thanks Nico for coming by, and thanks for developing the theme in the first place. Nice work.
Second, I actually quite liked the Instant Search, but the problem is that once you drop a widget into the left sidebar, the Instant Search goes way (unless I’m missing something).
Does the Instant Search exist as its own widget that I can manipulate in WordPress’ Sidebar Widgets manager?
Okay, we got three votes for the ‘hate it’ category of this theme. I know Adam’s issues with it from an offline conversation, but what about some of you others?
What is it about the theme that you don’t like?
The reason I ask is because I can always try to fix the issue. No guarantee that I’ll be able to, of course, but I can try.
So let me know please.
the asides…
you used to be able to comment on each aside topic, and when you did, the comment would be filed under “new comments” with the heading of the asided topic you chose to comment under… - now… - if you comment on a particular aside, the comment is grouped under, “Links for”… - you almost have to point out which aside that you’re commenting on… - you don’t have to, er per sei re me fa so la ti doe… - so…
I hate new things.
I’m down with the whole thing, little man. Best one yet. Best ONE yet…yes sir ee. You are really doin it this time, Jimmy. Yeah, do it up.
I am also a fan of the new design. Good job, baby! Although, I agree with david’s complaint regarding Aside commenting.
Well, of the nine of you who voted, six of you don’t like the thing. The people have spoken.
Perhaps in the next couple of weeks, I’ll find a theme that will suit y’all better.
Feel free to leave any requests in this thread.
find a theme that allows for the old icons.
That one’s not gonna happen. We’re sticking with the banner icons.
But as I said before, feel free to come up with a banner-design that you like.
banner-design that I like
not gonna happen.
