As some of you may know, I am (currently) an undergraduate student in the Progressive Program at Green Mountain College in Vermont. As part of our requirements for graduation, Progressive Program students must complete a Senior Study. The Senior Study is a 12-credit project that acts as a capstone to the student’s entire undergraduate career. In other words, it’s a big deal.
And well, I’ve finished mine. It’s entitled, “Of Creative Nonphilosophy,” and it is available as a PDF for anyone who would like to read it. It’s a little over a hundred-pages, but the reading is relatively easy and it shouldn’t take much longer than an hour to read the entire thing.
I hope you like it. And please, feel free to leave any feedback (good or bad). I’d love to hear it.

hour - shmour
it moves quickly in the beginning but begins to get long winded around the middle.
This is going to be a two lunch breaker, minimum.
Sorry, Adam. I should have stated that it took me just over an hour to read the whole thing. But I wrote it, so I kind of know what’s coming.
plus, adam is a slow reader.
where to start? - i’ll start with the confusion of reading it on the computer screen… - it’s difficult to see the structure because it’s as if your writing is a building and i’m grappling onto the building - climbing up and down - trying to make sense of the pieces… - they make sense… - but the effort in trying to make sense of it would be less of an effort if i had printed it out… - if i had printed it… - i would be looking at the building from a distance - being able to to shuffle my eyes along the structure and connect the dots with less effort…
it’s pulp fictionous… - not that the time is scrambled because it’s apparent that it moves forward in real time - according to the recorded time of the entries… - but… - it’s pulp fictionous in that i’m going to have to read it again… - which is a good thing…
creative nonphilosophy… - the title itself is very meaningful… - you let it be known that you’re not just speaking about nonphilosophy - but - creative nonphilosophy - which opens the door to a flood of possibilities… - with no end in site…
very nice…
it’s peculiar the characters you chose… - even though - they’re all you… - i wonder why you chose such a trail mix… - unborn - living and dead… - all contributing to the curiosity of creative nonphilosophy…
there are few things you left out about tornadoes… - the environment ripe enough to unleash the tornado… - the people who encounter the tornadoes… - whether they be - running for shelter - or - chasing it… - while it creates - usually - a path of destruction - over time - that path is mended as the crops start their ongoing stretch towards the sun… - leaving - usually - no sign that a tornado had even been grounded… - hmmm…
i am impressed… - impressed enough to buy some computer paper and print it out…
congratulations on the creation of monroe - literally and physically - if - in fact - she exists… - even if she doesn’t… - bravo…
Thanks for the great feedback, Dave! I don’t want to get into responding to your “wonderings” just yet, because I don’t want to influence anyone else who might read it. But I have to write a process paper for it, and once that is done, you can be sure I’ll post it for you all to read if you like.
As for Monroe, she’s just a figment of my imagination. Thanks though.
Phew….done.
Actually not as painful (in length) as I anticipated when I saw the 109 pages. In truth it is a manageable read that takes a cross-eyed slow reading spaz like me about two hours. (give or take)
I say give or take because we all read at di-ff-er-ent sp-ee-ds. see how I just slowed you down.
Anyway, back to the senior study at hand:
The good (always start with the good, right)
It was an interesting read that was put together in a nonstandard and creative way that sought to explain a somewhat complicated pseudo-philosophic topic via an easy to understand conversation between (non)acquaintances.
Did it make me thing: yes
Do I understand creative nonphilosophy: I think so (and thats about all you can ask for, I think)
Is it obvious that Kyle has put a lot of thought into creative nonphilosophy, so much so that he is able to discuss it in a deeply meaningful way that turns it upside down and inside out: yes.
is that impressive: yes
Now for the negative (gotta have negative, right)
Did I like it: (was it entertaining) (was it supposed to be)….sort of (not really) (probably not in the way that i was hoping)
Was there a story within: Not really..which I guess was on purpose (as evidenced by the ending) but at the same time, 109 pages to describe conceptionally a concept is cool and keeps you reading but it would be more cool (in my puny opinion) if there was a story, or some closure among the characters…something, some ending.
were the negatives overshadowed by the positive:
yes
without question:
pretty much
well done sir.
Thanks for the feedback, everybody. If anyone else has anything else to add, that would be awesome. The more feedback the better!
Adam, real quick: I love you that characterize it as “pseudo-philosophic” despite the fact that a large portion of the thing is an attempt to explain why it is not nor is it intended to be philosophy.
