The NY Tmes is reporting today that “President Bush authorized Vice President Dick Cheney in July 2003 to permit Mr. Cheney’s chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby Jr., to leak to a reporter key portions of a classified prewar intelligence estimate on Iraq, according to Mr. Libby’s grand jury testimony disclosed in court papers filed late Wednesday.”
Congressman Sanders, can you please stop saying that impeachment is the wrong issue for the Democratic party? Because you are telling Vermonters that, at a certain level, holding people accountable for their criminal actions is not in the nation’s best interest.
I understand that you want to focus your efforts on taking back Congress, not on kicking the President out of the White House, but the way to take back Congress is not by ignoring the issues that face Americans, and the criminal actions of their president is one of the issues. The President of the United States, before being president, is a citizen of this country, and he is not “above the law.” By denying the role of impeachment in a functioning democracy, you deny the egalitarian ideal of America. Not only do you give creedence to the view that our republic has devolved into a plutocracy, but even further, your denial of impeachment demonstrates a refusal to stand up against those in power.
Your desire and your efforts to replace those who are in power is admirable, no doubt. But you forget, sir, that you are in power. You hold in your heart the power of the people of Vermont. A growing percentage of those Vermonters have declared their desire for impeachment proceedings. We are asking you to use your power to speak up against those who have abused theirs. This is what we ask of you. And that is how we will take back Congress. Not by ducking the hard issues, but by facing up to them.
Please stop running from what is right.
Thank you for your time, and your good sense,
Kyle Callahan

last i checked… - if a person is mentioned in court by the defendant - that said person is usually hauled in for further questioning to either deny or confirm the defendants accusations…
however… - with the proof of torturous prisons scattered around the globe without any accountability of the executive branch… - do you really think that this recent cherry will topple over the disgusting mess that this administration has created?
small potatoes this is… - however… - it’ll be a shame if it’s swept under the rug… - if they can fit it under there… - the rug isn’t even touching the ground anymore… - ugh…
Holy shit. Dave! David Rosen!
(For those that don’t know, I went to high school with this guy. Haven’t talked to him in years. Ain’t the Internet great? Check out his website; some great artwork — I especially like “Long Love Reason” — and some cool music.)
I hear what you’re saying, Dave, and it’s pretty much what Bernie is saying: “This Congress is not going to investigate this White House.”
I concede the fact.
But I don’t think that should prevent Democrats (and Democratic candidates for the mid-term elections) from saying what needs to be said. I’m not saying that they should promise impeachment if the Democrats take back Congress, but they should let the people know where they stand once such a thing happens.
In other words, if the Democrats win Congress, what will they do to ensure that this White House (which will be in power for another two years) does not get away with the crimes that it has “allegedly” committed.
Bernie is telling his Vermont constituents that he would support any investigations if and when they happen. But I’m asking him to stop saying he’d support them, and start telling us he’d lead them.
thank you for the compliments…
leigh told me about your website… - so… - i’ve been reading it for about a month now… - i have it bookmarked… - you’re the man… - the material is refreshingly advanced…
so yeah…
cheerios…
-
i completely agree with you… - the administration - and - what they stand for - has to be dealt with… - like… - yesterday… - what’s stopping them?
politics?
are they afraid of appearing too rebellious?
i’ll tell you this… - rebel or no rebel - the conservatives are going to paint a black and white picture about their opponent anyway… - demonizing is going to take place regardless… - so… - you’d figure that that isn’t the reason for the lack of rebelliousness or lack of leadership in the name of true justice…
so what is it?
are there too many skeletons in the closets of our elected officials? - do they feel awkward waving around a scepter of truth? - are they themselves cautious of being burned by the handle?
Wait Libby, who is trying to save his ass for perjury, is credible? I skimmed through the article but is there a paper trail? If I was libby I would of had both the president and the VP sign off on this on paper. But if we are just going on what this guy says then we will need more then that. Also in the article
“according to Mr. Libby’s grand jury testimony.”
“If Mr. Libby’s account is accurate”
“The president has the legal power to declassify information”-if this is true then Libby would get off and the president would also get off because he was not breaking any laws.
Dave nice to hear from you and I wish kyle passed on your site earlier.
which justin are we talking about?
kinney?
whoever it is… - nice to hear from you too…
chit chea…
let me create a metaphor…
there is a giant snowball heading for the american people… - the bush administration and most republicans mind not - for - they are at the top of the hill… - they actually fueled the snowball’s momentum…
the snowball is huge… - dead bodies are all mashed into and around it… - odds are that it is littered with explosives as well… - only the brave have the power to chip away at it and diffuse it before it’s too late… - sanders and company are definitely equip with the tools necessary to break this fucker up… - but - they have to act fast…
sort of like dick tracy…
