Close your eyes

2000 soldiers have now died in Iraq.

Close your eyes and remember them. Remember their life force. Remember their mothers and fathers, their brothers and sisters, their sons and daughters, their friends and community. See the extinguishment of their flame. See their energy dissipating like smoke. See the darkness their death leaves behind.

Now open your eyes. Open your eyes and see the reasons they have died. Catch those reasons with the spotlight of your mind. Do not let them escape. Capture them. Own them. And bring their conspirators to justice.

I see last week’s approval of the Iraqi constitution that saw 10 million people freely vote in the Arab world’s first democracy. Our soldiers accomplished better revealed their reasons for being there: no more no-fly zones; no more Kurdish or Shiite state massacres; no more attacks on Kuwait, Iran, Israel or Saudi Arabia; no more assassination attempts against former presidents — and now a democracy in place of a terror state. I say thank you for to them for their sacrifice to making this world a safer place.
